Project history
The Perry Lakes Redevelopment Act (2005) was passed on Thursday 1 December 2005 and gave the State Government the responsibility for the redevelopment of Perry Lakes and AK Reserve. The Department of Sport and Recreation commenced work in February 2006.Built in 1962 for the Commonwealth Games, the ageing Perry Lakes Stadium will be redeveloped into a high-quality residential housing estate, the money from which will fund the new sporting facilities. The Department of Sport and Recreation and the Department of Housing and Works are responsible for the planning and construction of the new sporting facilities.
Plans for the site and each of the stadiums have been developed in consultation with key stakeholders and local community members. The consultation process included the formation of a stakeholder reference group to provide input into the development of site plans, a community workshop, regular stakeholder and community briefings and ongoing communications.
The input of stakeholder groups, particularly sporting groups, has been extremely important in ensuring the development of workable and effective plans for the site.
